Entrance is by the side door and parking is
available on the adjacent school playground, a fee of 50p is collected to
cover the hire of the playground.
A raffle is held each meeting, the proceeds go to
help provide equipment for the Society. The winner will receive a £5
Jessops voucher. Midway
through the meetings, which are usually over by 10 p.m., a break is taken
for refreshments. Coffee and chocolate is served by members on a volunteer
rota basis. The break gives the opportunity for new members to get to know
the more established members.
The Society meets as a single group on most evenings
but occasionlly the meeting divides into groups with particular interests.
These groups are:-
Print group: This includes members whose
special interest is in print making both black and white and colour.
Digital Imaging: This group is for members who
are interested in the comparatively recent method of producing images by the
use of computers.
Transparency
group: For members whose interest is in the production of colour slides.
AV (Audio Visual): Members in this group meet
in members’ homes to bring together slides with taped commentaries on
specific themes or locations.
Studio group: The Society organises studio and location
photography events from time to time.
Twice a year, at Christmas and in the Spring, the
Society has social evenings. During
the summer outings are arranged, these depend on the level of support to
make them viable.
The Society is affiliated to the East Anglian
Federation of Photographic Societies (EAF) and through it to the
Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB). It also has links with
Fotoclub of Koblenz with which Norwich is twinned.
Each year the Society has an exhibition of members’
work which is exhibited in the Cathedral and awards are made for the best
work in specific categories. The
award of trophies is decided by a panel of independent judges.
There is also a self selected (members submitting
their best work with no judging taking place) Exhibition held annually.
