Alan
was born in Manchester 1924. He was an RAF pilot (Lancasters)
and his squadron was in the victory flypast over Buck House in
1946. He subsequently toured the USA. From 1947 on, he was an
electronics engineer, working for the BBC sound and television transmitter department in Huddersfield. Married
in 1949, Alan came to Norwich 1953. Early retirement from BBC 1981
was followed by a short appointment with the Foreign Office in Oman.
In 1983 he finally retired!
Alan
joined the NDPS in mid 60s. He's not sure when but the
society's records say 22nd October 1962. He served as Chairman in
1983-4, Exhibition Secretary from 1987-1992 and
President from 1996-1998. He has been a member of Audio Visual group since it
started in around 1980. The AV group as such has disintegrated as digital has taken over.
Finally, Alan has been the society's Projectionist for more than 15 years and
has served on the exhibition committee over twenty years.
